Ukulele Lesson 3 - "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" - Verse

Hey fifth grade uke players -- here's the next part of the song I'd like you to learn. With this you should now be able to play "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" in it's entirety,

"Welsh Folk Tune" - concert speed

And here is a recording of the melody at the tempo I would like to take it for our concert.

"Welsh Folk Tune" - melody in 4 phrases

Recorder Ensemble -- since some some requested it, here is a quick review of the main melody for "Welsh Folk Tune" for you to practice to. Remember -- I do need some of you to play the drone, so if you can make an E, you have a job!

Tinikling in 2nd Grade

Not everything we're doing in music is related to culmination of the ensemble concert next week. Classroom music is still going on, as seen in this video from Monday. Ms. Sae-Tang's class did a very nice job with this form of Filipino dancing called Tinikling.

Recorder Ensemble -- "The Joker" -- How to play the chorus

Recorder Ensemble -- here is the chorus from "The Joker" as played on Soprano and Sopranino. In other words all of you should find something useful here. The concerts in less than two weeks so practice, practice, practice!

Ukulele Lesson 2 - "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" Intro

Hi Fifth Grade Uke Players -- here is a video of what we were working on in class last week, so you can practice. The four chords being played here are the only four you need to know to play our arrangement of "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" -- and quite a few other songs.

Ensembles concert on June 1!

I am pleased to announce that the Wonderland Recorder Ensemble, Orff Percussion Ensemble and Chorus will be presenting their end of year concert on Friday, June 1 at 6:30 PM. The show begins at 6:30 and runs approximately 40 minutes. I would like all musicians to check in with me in the MPR by 6 PM. Performers should wear plain white or light tops and dark or black pants. Girls can wear dresses, but keep in mind that Orff performers usually sit cross-legged behind their instruments. Recorder players must also bring their recorders. There's less two weeks to go musicians. So be sure and use the practice materials I have been (and will be) posting here.

"Somewhere Over The Rainbow" arranged for Uke

Here's the arrangement of "Somewhere Over The Rainbow" we will be using (minus the intro and the Bob Dylan part). See how you do playing along using the strumming pattern we worked on last week.

5th Grade Culmination - Ukulele Lesson

Hi 5th Grade Uke Players -- here's a very short video that will help you learn the chords you will need to play somewhere over the rainbow. Hopefully when I see you next you will at least know how to make all four chords. As for tuning the uke, I refer you to my earlier post.

Recorder Ensemble - "The Joker" - Sopraninos

Here's another video that goes into the sopranino part for "The Joker," which we will be performing in conjunction with the Orff Ensemble.

Recorder Ensemble - Sopranino Recorders

Hey recorder ensemble members -- for those of you who are playing sopraninos in our concert in a few weeks, this video should help introduce you to the idea of recorders in the Key F. That includes altos and basses as well. The link below will explain the complete fingerings for F recorders. Click on Sopranino Fingerings
