3rd Grade Home -- "Tune of the Buffens" Part 1
Hi Ms. Weiss's and Ms. Wasson's classes -- here's some video on our second song, "Tune of the Buffens" - which Ms. Weiss's kids started yesterday and which Julia's kids will get into on Tuesday. Give it a look and be prepared to tell me in our next class what a Buffen is.

2nd grade Magnet -- "S'vivon"
Hello again Ms. Lamoureaux's and Ms. Jung's classes -- here is our second song, a traditional Hanukkah song which contrasts nicely with our other song. And contrast is what makes our holiday show interesting.
S’vivon
Traditional Hanukkah Song
S’vivon -- sov, sov, sov.
Hanukkah, hu chag tov.
Hanukkah, hu chag tov.
S’vivon -- sov, sov, sov.
Chag sim cha, hu la’am.
Nes ga dol haya sham.
Nes ga dol haya sham.
Chag sim cha, hu la’am.
Spinning top -- spin, spin, spin.
Hanukkah feast begin.
Hanukkah feast begin.
Spinning top -- spin, spin, spin.
Hanukkah celebration;
A holiday for our nation.
Things to eat and games to play
Dreidel spins all the day.
2nd Grade Magnet -- "(Seven Days of) Kwanzaa"
Ms. Lamoureaux's and Ms. Jung's students -- here is the first of two songs we will be performing for the holiday show on December 13. You can play a recording of my friend Michelle singing the song by clicking on the button below. The main difference between her version and ours is that in out coda we sing the word Kwanzaa seven times (as in the 7 days of Kwanzaa).
(Seven Days of) Kwanzaa
by Nancy Stewart
Seven days of Kwanzaa;
Seven days to celebrate!
Seven ways of Kwanzaa;
Seven reasons to celebrate!
Celebrate your history,
Celebrate your family,
Honor creativity,
And celebrate with me.
Seven days of Kwanzaa;
Seven days to celebrate!
Seven ways of Kwanzaa;
Seven reasons to celebrate!
Kwanzaa! Kwanzaa! Kwanzaa! Kwanzaa!
Kwanzaa! Kwanzaa! Kwanzaa!
2nd Grade Home -- "Edelweiss"
Hey second grade home -- here's your second song. Some of you may recognize it from the musical "The Sound of Music."
Edelweiss
by Richard Rogers and Oscar Hammerstein
Edelweiss, Edelweiss,
Every morning you greet me.
Small and white clean and bright;
You look happy to meet me.
Blossom of snow may you bloom and grow;
Bloom and grow forever.
Edelweiss, Edelweiss,
Bless my homeland forever.
2nd Grade Home -- "Al Quebrar La Piñata"
Ms. McCloud, Ms. Zarakowski and Mr. Austin's students (and families) -- here is the first of two songs you and your classmates will be singing in the holiday show on December 13. The trick here (aside from the Spanish pronunciations, which we will work on in class) is the switch from triple meter (meter in 3) to duple (meter in 2). Listen to this practice recording and you will see what I mean.
Al Quebrar La Piñata
a traditional Christmas song from Mexico
En las noches de posadas
La piñat’es lo mejor.
La niña más remilgada
Se’al barota con ardor.
Dale, dale, dale;
No pierdas el tino.
Que de las distancia
Se pierde’al camino!
In the happy days of Christmas
Sounds of gladness fill the air.
When it’s time for the piñata
There’s excitement everywhere.
Take a stick and whack it;
Be the one to crack it.
Win piñata’s treasure
Candy for your pleasure!
1st Grade Home - "I Saw Three Ships"
Ms. Gary's and Ms. Valdez's students (and parents) -- here is the other song we will be doing. There are several verses but if you keep an eye on the patterns it will be much easier to remember them.
I Saw Three Ships
Traditional/England
I saw three ships come sailing in
On Christmas Day, on Christmas Day,
I saw three ships come sailing in
On Christmas Day in the morning.
Pray wither sailed those ships all three?
On Christmas Day, on Christmas Day,
Pray wither sailed those ships all three?
On Christmas Day in the morning.
O, they sailed into Bethlehem.
On Christmas Day, on Christmas Day,
O, they sailed into Bethlehem.
On Christmas Day in the morning.
And all the bells on earth shall ring
On Christmas Day, on Christmas Day,
And all the bells on earth shall ring
On Christmas Day in the morning.
And all the angels in heaven shall sing
On Christmas Day, on Christmas Day,
And all the angels in heaven shall sing
On Christmas Day in the morning.
Then let us all rejoin, amen
On Christmas Day, on Christmas Day,
Then let us all rejoin, amen
On Christmas Day in the morning.
1st Grade Home - "Ise Oluwa"
Ms. Gary's and Ms. Valdez's class -- here is the first of two songs we will be learning for the Holiday Show on December 13. While the song is in Yoruban, an African language, as you can see it is really just two phrases. It means -- "that which the creator has made can never be destroyed"
