2nd Grade Home -- "Al Quebrar La Piñata"

Ms. McCloud, Ms. Zarakowski and Mr. Austin's students (and families) -- here is the first of two songs you and your classmates will be singing in the holiday show on December 13.  The trick here (aside from the Spanish pronunciations, which we will work on in class) is the switch from triple meter (meter in 3) to duple (meter in 2).  Listen to this practice recording and you will see what I mean.

Al Quebrar La Piñata
a traditional Christmas song from Mexico

En las noches de posadas
La piñat’es lo mejor.
La niña más remilgada
Se’al barota con ardor.

Dale, dale, dale;
No pierdas el tino.
Que de las distancia
Se pierde’al camino!

In the happy days of Christmas
Sounds of gladness fill the air.
When it’s time for the piñata
There’s excitement everywhere.

Take a stick and whack it;
Be the one to crack it.
Win piñata’s treasure
Candy for your pleasure!
