3rd Grade Magnet - "Bring a Torch, Jeanette Isabella"

Ms. Abu Bakir and Mr. Oasay's classes -- here is the first of two songs 3rd Grade Magnet will be performing at the holiday show on December 13. We will decide later about whether we are going to add any recorder accompaniment. For now concentrate on learning the words, some of which are in French.

BRING A TORCH, JEANETTE, ISABELLA
Traditional French

Un flambeau, Jeanette, Isabelle --
Un flambeau! Courons au berceau!
C'est l’enfant, bonnes gens du harneau.
L’enfant est né; Mama appelle!
Ah!   Ah!
Que la mère est belle,
Ah!   Ah!
Ah!  Que l'enfant est beau!

Bring a torch, Jeanette Isabella.
Bring a torch, come swiftly and run.
A child is born, tell the folk of the village,
Baby is sleeping in his cradle
Ah!  Ah!
Beautiful is the mother
Ah!  Ah!
Beautiful is her son.

Hasten now, good folk of the village.
Hasten now, the baby to see
You will find him asleep in his cradle,
Quietly come and whisper softly,
Hush, hush
Peacefully now he slumbers
Hush, hush
Peacefully now he sleeps.

3rd/4th Grade Home -- "Pat-a-pan"

Mrs. Hamilton's and Ms. Salazar's classes -- we are double you up this year and provides some interesting opportunities to mix recorders (Ms. Hamilton's 3rd graders) with drums and singing. In "Pat-a-pan" we use all three!

PAT-A-PAN
Traditional French Carol

Guilo prends ton tambourim.
(Gee-o pren ton tamboreem)
Toi, prends ta fluté Robin.
(Twa prend ta flootay Robeen)
Au son de ces instruments.
(Aw son day says instrument)
Tu-re-lu-re-lu
Pat-a-pat-a-pan
Au son de ces instruments
(Aw son day says instrument)
Je dirai Noel gaiment.
(Juh diray Noel gaymon)

Willie, get your little drum;
Robin bring your flute and come.
Aren’t they fun to play upon?
Tu-re-lu-re-lu
Pat-a-pat-a-pan
When you play your fife and drum
How can anyone be glum?

When the men of olden days
Gave the King of Kings their praise,
They had pipes to play upon.
Tu-re-lu-re-lu
Pat-a-pat-a-pan
And also the drums they’d play,
Full of joy of Christmas Day.

5th Grade Home - "Happy Christmas/War is Over" Part 3

...and here is a shorter video showing how to play the third part of the verse.  Again, if you can play this you can play the second verse and the "War is Over" part as well.  Keep strumming!

5th Grade Home -- "Happy Christmas/War is Over" Part 1 and 2

5th Grade Ukes  -- here is a video showing how to play the first two parts of "Happy Christmas."  Remember that the formula -- both the strumming pattern and chord progression -- are the same in the second verse.

5th Grade Home - Ukulele Tunings

5th Grade Home School Uke Players -- in order to play "Happy Christmas/War is Over" by John Lennon you are going to have to learn how to tune your uke and how to play the six chords pictured here.  This video should help you.  For tuning you can also use this link:  Ukulele Tuning

5th Grade Home - "Riu Riu Chiu"

Mr. Galvez's class -- we will be spending a great deal of time on the John Lennon song, but let's not forget about our other excellent holiday tune -- one of the greatest hits of the 16th century ;). Note that we will only be singing the verses listed here and on your lyric sheet.

Ríu ríu chíu
la guarda riberra

Dios guardo el lobo
El lobo de nuestra conderra
              (Dios guardo
El lobo de nuestra conderra)

Dios guardo el lobo
El lobo de nuestra conderra
              (Dios guardo
El lobo de nuestra conderra)

1. Now is come the time
to sing with joy and praise.
Singing of the birth
We’ve known throughout our age.
May we come together
With hope and peace and love?
Sharing with each other
The symbol of a dove.

2. As we find this season
Clear with warmth within us.
Maybe we will see
The meaning of forgiveness.
See in one another
Growing day by day.
Toward a closer loving
Time we all should pray.

3. Now with celebration
We gather far and near.
Seeking new relation
With those we hold most dear.
As we come together
We hope for bright days long.
So we join together
And we sing this song.

3rd Grade Home -- "Tune of the Buffens" Part 2

Hi again Ms. Weiss's and Ms. Wasson's classes -- here's some more "Buffens" video,  this time focusing on the more challenging "parallel harmony" part.  I'll need at least some of you to play it in the concert, while the rest of us focus on the melody in "Tune of the Buffens" Part 1.  Give it  try!
